fillings
Composite (Plastic)
Fillings are a means to replace decay or previously
placed fillings. These composite fillings function extremely well, being
bonded to healthy tooth services. These plastic fillings come in a
variety of shades allowing us to match existing or whitened (bleached)
tooth colors. They are very healthy fillings possessing no mercury as
found in black mercury (amalgam) fillings.
Porcelain Fillings are used
when longevity is desired. They are a custom-made, tooth-colored,
vacuum-fired laboratory processed, highly polished filling that is
bonded to a healthy tooth surface. Porcelain fillings are used when
frequent replacement of plastic fillings is not desired, and when
long-term function and aesthetics is a priority
Failing Amalgams are caused
by the corrosion of mercury fillings. These are fillings that are
shrinking from the tooth, causing a space to form between the filling
and the tooth, allowing bacteria to seep into the tooth causing decay,
pain, fracture, root canal, or extraction of the tooth. Replacement of
these type fillings is important when intermittent, slight pain exist or
when these leaking amalgams are detected by dental exam. (more
