diagnostics
Digital x-rays
are one of our key tools to diagnose the presence or absence of disease.
Digital x-rays are safe, reducing exposure to radiation by 90% over
conventional x -rays. The doctor views x-rays instantly, can enhance the
image for better viewing, and magnify an already magnified image. Doctor
and patient can view x-rays on dual monitors allowing improved patient
education, trust, and acceptance of treatment.
Panoramic x-rays are a
valuable image of the upper and lower jaw allowing early detection of
cysts, tumors, and abnormal growths, not visible with visual examination
or full mouth x-rays. Early in his career, Dr. Leafe, diagnosed a
small cyst in an 8 year old girl undergoing routine orthodontic
evaluation thru the use of a panoramic x-ray. The cyst was removed and
the girl recovered uneventfully. All exams are done with 4x
magnification allowing early detection of small infections more routine
and therefore treatment is less invasive and healing is quicker. (more

Diagnodent is used to
detect early cavities otherwise undetectable by normal exams because of
the use of fluoride has hardened the outer surface of the tooth, now
only penetrable by the laser and bacteria.
Fracture finder is used to
detect a fractured root not seen on x-ray or by visual exam
Periodontal Probing (Exam)
is an exam of all gum tissue done at the initial exam and all follow-up
exams to determine the presence or absence of gum infection. Early
detection is the key to successful treatment. Detection of and the
categorization of the severity of the gum infection will determine the
type of treatment necessary
Comprehensive exam is at
the initial visit to determine the degree of oral health of the mouth,
head & neck areas. During this exam the patient receives a:
Co-Diagnosis is done during both
the initial exam and the consultation appointment, where both doctor and
patient view dental x-rays and photo of diseased areas together. This
enables the patient to become educated of the existing disease present
and treatment options and hence, make an informed educated decision
about the proposed treatment proposed. (more

Dental intra oral camera
is a very effective means to educate patients
about diseased conditions in their mouth. Using a monitor displaying
digital x-rays and intraoral photos allows the patient to be informed
about the condition of their oral cavity.
